NO PROJECT IS TOO SMALL OR TOO SIMPLE TO OVERCOMPLICATE!
DUDLEY PROJECT CENTRAL
PROJECT: DESKTOP SIMPIT v1

December, 2011

A buddy of mine picked up some plans for a pit made out of 1 inch PVC pipe.  We weren't very sure of the quality of the outcome, but we thought we would give it a try.  Being that it was going to be his, and he was paying for all the materials, I was all in!

The Throne

We followed the directions and for being made out of PVC, it wasn't too bad.  Really the only way to keep it from wandering around on you though if you were actively flying was to velcro it to the arms of your chair once you were in position.  That made it a real pain in the ass to use though.

MFDs

At the time, we thought we might be putting a small screen behind a set of Thrustmaster MVDs he picked up.  So we built this box that would sit on the desktop.  It was sized to fit the screen/MFD lashup, plus room for some GoFlight modules stacked on each side.

His monitor would sit on the platform above the MFDs.

Behind the Curtain

Not a very complicated build, but it did turn out to be very sturdy.

But, the monitor ended up being a bit to high once everything was in place.

A Learning Experience

I'm not sure how many hours of use this rig received, but I think it was less than two handfulls.

While not a complete disaster or anything like that (no one died in the making or use of it), I think it was a good representation of the saying... but it looked good on paper.

I'll bet he would sell it to you CHEAP!  :)
